Re-Framing Your Negative Thoughts

Re-Framing Your Negative Thoughts

As horse riders, many of us suffer from negative thoughts πŸ‘Ή What if he spooks? What if I embarrass myself? What if I fall off? The list goes on. Fear and confidence are both imagined - choose wisely πŸ™Œ

Let’s talk about how we can reframe our inner thoughts to be more beneficial to our riding mindset ↓

🧠 Identify your negative self-talk. Pay attention to the negative thoughts and beliefs that hold you back. Write them down to better understand them and acknowledge when they appear.
🧠 Question the validity of your negative thoughts. Are they based on facts or just assumptions?
🧠 When a negative thought pops in your mind - consciously replace it with a more positive and realistic thought.
🧠 Practice positive affirmations. Create positive statements that reflect the success you want to achieve. Repeat these affirmations regularly to reprogram your subconscious mind.
🧠 Visualise success. Imagine yourself achieving your goals and experiencing success. Visualisation can help build confidence. Close your eyes and imagine the perfect ride. How does it feel? What does it look like? How does it sound? How do you feel?
🧠 Spend time with people who support your goals and aspirations. Avoid or limit contact with those who bring negativity.
🧠 Set realistic goals. Break down your big goals into smaller, achievable steps. Celebrate your successes along the way to boost your confidence.
🧠 Instead of seeing failures as defeats, view them as opportunities for growth and learning. Analyse what went wrong and how you can improve.
🧠 Seek help when needed. If negative self-talk is persistent and affecting your mental health, consider consulting a therapist or counselor for guidance.
🧠 Stay persistent & consistent. Changing your inner dialogue takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself and stay committed to the process.

Happy brain training! πŸ’ͺ
